THORP SCHOOLS - WINTER WEATHER PROTOCOLS

BE PREPARED!
Students should come to school prepared to play in all weather conditions. Students go outside for recess in inclement weather. It is rare to have indoor recess. Students will play outside in snow and temperatures as low as 10° (with wind chill). We recommend students bring snow pants, coats with hoods, gloves, snow boots, and hats to school.

WINTER WEATHER ALERTS

1 Hour Delay: Breakfast is served 9:00—9:30 a.m.
All buses run one hour behind the regular schedule.
Doors are not open for students until 9:00 a.m.
School starts at 9:30 a.m.

2 Hour Delay: NO breakfast is served!
All buses run two hours behind the regular schedule.
Doors are not open for students until 10:00 a.m.
School starts at 10:30 a.m.

School Building Closure: All after-school extracurricular activities are cancelled.

A Robocall will be sent to each student’s emergency contact phone number by 7:00 a.m. for delays and building closures.

How You Can Participate
Community and staff input will be an important part of developing the candidate profile. There will be several opportunities for stakeholders to participate throughout the process, including:

Community Survey: A community survey is now available through Tuesday, October 27, 2026. This will provide community members with an opportunity to share their perspectives on the strengths, challenges, opportunities, and future priorities of the Thorp School District. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/THORP26

Community Forum: At 5:00 pm on October 27, 2026 representatives from Northwest Leadership Associates will host a one-hour community forum in the library to listen to community members and gather input regarding the qualities and characteristics desired in the district’s next Superintendent.

Staff Input: District staff will have opportunities to provide input through a staff forum at 4:00 pm on October 27 and a survey.

Finalist Feedback: As the search progresses, finalists will have opportunities to engage with staff and community members. Feedback gathered during these activities will be shared with the Board and considered as part of the overall selection process.

The information gathered through the surveys, forums, and listening opportunities will be shared with the School Board and Northwest Leadership Associates. This input will help shape the candidate profile that will guide the recruitment, screening, and interview process. We are also including a message from the School Nurse, Dorothy, and the Health Room Assistant, Angela. As always, please reach out to the office with questions or clarification regarding attendance or student health policies.

A Quick Note from the Health Room!

Dear Families,

We hope you're having a wonderful week! We are having such a fantastic school year so far, and it is a true joy caring for your amazing kiddos every day.

We wanted to share a quick update about how health room visits work:

• Minor Visits: For small things like a quick band-aid, a brief rest, or a little snack, we take good care of your student and get them right back to class! Because these visits are minor, we won't always call home for them.

• Serious or Concerning Visits: Rest assured, if anything comes up that is concerning, serious, or requires your attention, you will always be the first to know—we will call you right away!

Our health room stays super busy, but we love hearing from you! Please never hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, updates, or if there's anything we can do to support your child.

9/10 - 8:30 am - 1st Day of School for 1st - 12th graders (doors open at 8 am)
9/14 - 8:30 am - 1st Day of School for TK and Kindergarteners (doors open at 8 am)

Students' ASB fees are due by the first day of school ($20 - Thorp, $20 - Kittitas for combined sports)
